Early diagnosis of thyroid cancer
Background
Our client was motivated to book their first Preventicum assessment in their late twenties due to concerns about their general wellbeing and the challenges they faced to access care locally during the coronavirus pandemic. He was feeling very tired and had been experiencing night sweats for a long period of time.
Clinical findings
During ultrasound scans of his carotid arteries, our Sonographer identified an abnormal looking lymph node in his neck.
Next steps
Their Preventicum Doctor urgently referred them for further investigation and following a biopsy, a diagnosis was made for medullary carcinoma (cancer) of the thyroid gland. We were delighted to hear that surgery was successful in removing the thyroid gland and 50 additional lymph nodes to clear the cancer and reduce the risk of spread. Our client is very grateful to the Preventicum team for this early diagnosis.
