Bowel health

OVERVIEW
Consultant Gastroenterologist
Your Preventicum Doctor may recommend a consultation with Dr Sean Preston, Consultant Gastroenterologist, to discuss a colonoscopy. A colonoscopy is considered the gold standard for colorectal screening and can be used to detect polyps, which could become cancerous if left untreated. Polyps and bowel cancer can develop without symptoms, so screening and early detection is essential for effective treatment.
During your initial consultation, your eligibility for a colonoscopy will be assessed and you will be advised on the preparation required before the procedure. You may benefit from a colonoscopy if you are over 45 years old and do not have any symptoms relating to your bowel health. Following your colonoscopy, you will meet with Dr Preston to review your results and discuss any further management if necessary.
If you are not eligible for a colonoscopy, you will be referred for an in-person consultation with a Gastroenterologist to determine the most appropriate next steps.
